Xombie Cancellation

Posted by Valfire - May 19th, 2012

Actually I intended to discuss things a bit further last time.
But I didn't have much to say when it all came down to it.

Thankfully, I intend to keep a little production journal as the film progresses.
As well as I feel the need to say a few more things.

Last year, I made an entry discussing the now defunct Xombie movie.
http://valfire.newgrounds.com/news/post/574227

It recently came to my attention James Farr finally stepped out of the shadows in a few weeks ago and gave the low down.
Dreamworks just sat on the Xombie rights for four years.

So now that the deal is more or less expired, the rights are now once again with James Farr.
Rightfully so as I didn't trust at all what Dreamworks had planned for it.

But it's what happened following this.
He went and announced 'Xombie: Death Warmed Over" which from what was said to be 'Season 2' of Xombie.

I was excited for all of ten seconds until I saw it was already canceled the moment I found out about it.

Ok so... they open the funding for it.
And in less than a few short weeks the funding was already closed, and the project was canceled.
At least from what I can gather.

All this flew right under my radar as I didn't even know this funding was taking place.
Where was the info??

I mean sure it was on the Xombified page, but seriously you think something like this would have gotten more publicity.
(Seriously with the lack of updates since 2008 who checked it often?)

And this was an open and shut deal in all of less than three weeks.

Honestly, I would have gladly donated money had I even KNOWN this was going on.
But now since that's an impossibility.

All I can really do is gripe about it.
No while I am not upset with James Farr.
(Dreamworks a bit rather)

It's just I for one want to see the rest of the story that James Farr has to tell.

Xombie Cancellation

I think James had a lot of things going on at the time. I heard personal and financial reasons (rumours) played a big part in that. From what it seems now (2014) the Xombie website is up but it hasn't been touched for two years. The forums do not exist anymore and there not a single mention of Xombie on this personal artist's website, I think he dropped this project, wanting everyone else to forget about it too, and they did. Sad, but that is reality.

I was literally just telling my friend about this and was astonished that he had never heard of it before. I also never knew there was a kickstarter for a second season or I would have donated as well. I never heard any news about a second season so I believed the series was over. I always thought it would make a great movie, then I just read that Dreamworks had the rights to it. They threw away an amazing opportunity for a wonderful movie with a great story and iconic characters. James, if you are out there please open the kickstarter fund again, or at least continue to work on Xombie. You have amazing talents and dedicated fans.

He's still active thankfully!
Particularly on Youtube.
Think i'll try writing him an e-mail and getting the sitrep on his current activity, as well as Xombie's future.

Hell, I guarantee had some higher ups on Newgrounds helped promote it, it would have made it's goal easily.

I'll see if I can't pull a few strings, rattle some cages to try to help revive the project.
As the conclusion must be told!

So there is hope after all. Let it be known that there IS life after death!

I remember seeing this series good few years back, before NG had those two new redesign. I always wondered what happened to it.

It's rather sad to see this go.
